The manufacturer was founded in Copenhagen in 1853 by M.H. Bing, J.H. Bing and modeller F.V. Grøndahl. The first products were biscuit figures based on Thorvaldsen's sculptures; dinner services were produced from around 1860, and underglaze decoration from around 1900. Well-known patterns include the Hejre service (1888, Pietro Krohn) and Mågestellet (1892, Fanny Garde). In 1895, the first Christmas plate was issued, designed by August Hallin.

Until 1895, the products were marked with the “B & G” mark, later supplemented by three towers from the coat of arms of Copenhagen. In 1895, the company became a joint-stock company, and in 1987 it was incorporated into Royal Copenhagen A/S.
