Eilersen is a Danish upholstered furniture manufacturer, run by the same family for around 130 years; the fourth generation is currently represented by Nils Juul Eilersen. The founder, Niels Eilersen, was a wheelwright and carriage builder from Stensby; according to Vogue Scandinavia, he was the first in Denmark to use steam for bending wood. The company’s origins are linked to a carriage built in 1895, although the exact year of its establishment has not been determined.
The company progressed from carriages, through frames for the first cars, to chairs and upholstered sofa frames. Among those who designed for Eilersen were Illum Wikkelsø (rocking armchair, 1958), Erik Wørts (Safari armchair, c. 1960), Andreas Hansen (Mumie, 1973) and Jens Juul Eilersen (Stratos sofa, 1979).
