The Bumling pendant lamp was developed in the late 1960s by Anders Pehrson for Ateljé Lyktan and remains one of the manufacturer’s most recognisable designs to this day. This model was created at a time when lighting with a clear utilitarian function, refined in terms of proportion and detail, was playing an increasingly important role in Scandinavian design.

The lamp’s form is based on a wide metal shade with a softly angled profile. Its shape was designed to direct light effectively downwards while limiting its spread to the sides. The internal construction and the way the light source is shielded ensure that the lamp provides even, glare-free illumination, making it well suited for use above a table or in a workspace.

The example shown has a glossy beige finish, characteristic of variants produced in the 1960s and 1970s. The simple suspension system and clearly articulated structural elements emphasise the utilitarian character of the design.
