Moon table lamp designed by Verner Panton, Danalight, Denmark, 1990s
Description
Moon table lamp designed by Verner Panton for Danalight, Denmark, 1990s.
An iconic table lamp in a futuristic Space Age aesthetic. The object is made of metal and plastic.
The main spherical body consists of a set of movable, ring-shaped slats in milky white, suspended on a metal axis. The construction rests on a stable, circular base with a vertical arm and a semicircular stabilising bar.
This fan-like, cascading arrangement of slats gives the shade a distinctive, modular and sculptural aesthetic. The movable rings allow the geometry of the lamp to be freely adjusted, optimising the dispersion of light and the degree to which the bulb is shielded.
Verner Panton (1926–1998) was one of the most influential and avant-garde Danish designers of the 20th century, revolutionising post-war design. He was renowned for his unconventional approach to form and colour, and his futuristic, pop-art designs using plastics became enduring icons of the Space Age style.
