Vintage leather sofa, designed by John-Bertil Häggström for Swed-Form, Sweden, 1970s

An elegant, quilted sofa designed by John-Bertil Häggström for the Swedish furniture manufacturer Swed-Form in Skillingaryd in the 1970s. The sofa is entirely upholstered in black genuine leather with evenly spaced quilting. The seat and backrest consist of separate, generously sized cushions joined with sewn-in snap fasteners. The sofa frame is made of gold-finished metal, further accentuating its modernist aesthetic with a strong Hollywood Regency influence. This highly comfortable sofa, with its ergonomic shape, is ideal for a living room or lounge.

The Hollywood Regency style is characterised by the bold use of colours and contrasts, often with metallic accents intended to convey both opulence and comfort. The style was named after the film industry of Southern California, whose characteristic homes and estates belonged to actors and actresses of Hollywood’s Golden Age, roughly from the 1920s to the 1950s.

John-Bertil Häggström is a member of the Association of Swedish Industrial Designers. After working as part of the IKEA team and with other furniture manufacturers, John-Bertil began his career as an independent designer working for Swedish and international companies. He designs furniture for both commercial and residential settings. Häggström has received, among other honours, Japan’s G-Mark Design Award.

We have two pieces available. This listing is for one of them. Both sofas are preserved in their original vintage condition, with signs of age and natural patina. They have minor scuffs and scratches. The seat height is 36 cm.
