Archizoom Associati was founded in Florence in 1966 by Andrea Branzi, Paolo Deganello, Massimo Morozzi and Gilberto Corretti; Dario and Lucia Bartolini joined in 1968. Its name refers to the British group Archigram and the magazine “Zoom” it published.
The group worked in anti-design, challenging modernist design conventions; it drew on kitsch, irony, bold colours and ephemerality. It created conceptual city designs, including “Wind City” (1969) and “Non-Stop City” (1970). Together with Superstudio, it organised the “Superarchitettura” exhibitions in Pistoia (1966) and Modena (1967). Its designs included the Superonda sofa (1966), the modular Safari seating set (1968), the Mies chair (1969) and the Dream Beds series (1969).
