Cini Boeri, full name Maria Cristina Mariani Dameno, was born on 19 June 1924 in Milan, where she died on 9 September 2020. In 1951, she obtained a degree in architecture from Politecnico di Milano, worked briefly for Gio Ponti and then – according to Wikipedia, from 1951 to 1963 – collaborated with Marco Zanuso. In 1963, she established her own practice, Cini Boeri Architetti.
For Arflex, she designed, among others, Borgogna (1964), the Bobo armchair (1967), the Serpentone sofa (1971) and the Strips system (1972), for which she received the Compasso d'Oro in 1979. For Knoll, she created Lunario and the Gradual sofa (1970), as well as Brigadier (1978). In 1987, she designed the Ghost glass chair for Fiam, and in 1989 the Feltro chandelier for Venini.
She also designed houses, including Casa Bunker and Villa Rotonda in Sardinia (1960s), as well as Casa nel bosco (1969). In 2011, she received the Compasso d'Oro for lifetime achievement. Strips is part of the permanent collection of Triennale Milano, while Boeri's work is also held by MoMA and Centre Pompidou.
