Eva Stæhr-Nielsen (née Wilhjelm) was born on 30 July 1911 in Frederiksberg and died on 26 April 1976 in Copenhagen. In 1930, she began studying at the newly established Kunsthåndværkerskolen in Copenhagen, where the ceramics class was led by the sculptor Olaf Stæhr-Nielsen, whom she married in 1935.
In 1932, she began working at Nathalie Krebs's Saxbo workshop, which produced high-quality stoneware in series. From 1932 to 1951, she was Saxbo's sole designer and shaped its artistic profile; among other things, she designed a spherical teapot and the “Spaltekanden” vase. Some of her works were signed “EW”, after her maiden name.
