Gino Colombini was born on 1 January 1915 in Milan and died there on 30 January 2011. In 1948 he designed furniture with Franco Albini; together they won the Low Cost Furniture competition in New York.

From 1951, he designed plastic objects for Kartell; a plastic bucket earned him the Compasso d’Oro in 1955. In 1956, he designed a modular storage system for Kartell with a metal frame and polystyrene doors. Around 1960, he collaborated with Husqvarna Borstfabrik, designing, among other things, the Karaffa thermos and the Scolaplasta colander.
