Carl Jürgen Torsson von Konow was born in 1915 in Östersund and died in 1959. He was a painter and printmaker. According to the Konstfeber artists' lexicon, he also designed postage stamps, while his winter views of Stockholm brought him recognition.
Gallery sources state that in the early 1930s he studied at Högre konstindustriella skolan in Stockholm, in 1935 at Académie Scandinave in Paris, and subsequently in the studio of Marcel Gromaire and at Atelier 17, founded by Stanley William Hayter. The same sources state that in 1946 he studied printmaking at Konsthögskolan in Stockholm, in 1953 he was an assistant to Harold Arthur Sallberg at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, and in 1956 he published the textbook “Om grafik: historia och teknik”. The gallery also states that in 1958 he received one of the main prizes at the international print exhibition in Ljubljana.
Von Konow's works are held in the collections of Nationalmuseum, Moderna Museet and Stockholms stadsmuseum; the gallery also lists, among others, Ateneum in Helsinki, Rijksmuseum and the British Museum. At MIDMOD, his works appear as single pieces from the secondary market.
