Stanisław Lejkowski was born in 1929 in Chełmno. He graduated from Państwowe Liceum Sztuk Plastycznych (State Secondary School of Fine Arts) in Bydgoszcz, and from 1950 to 1955 studied graphic design, interior architecture and stained glass at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. For several decades, he helped shape post-war Bydgoszcz: he designed the interiors of Teatr Kameralny (Kameralny Theatre), Orzeł cinema, Cristal café and the Savoy and Zodiak clubs, as well as sgraffiti, mosaics, murals, neon signs and monuments, including Pomnik Tysiąclecia (the Millennium Monument). He was a graphic designer for Empik and headed Ośrodek Wzornictwa Ceramiki Budowlanej (Centre for Building Ceramics Design). He died in December 2025 at the age of 96.

He designed furniture together with Wacław Leśniewski, a furniture constructor from whom, as he recalled, he learned about technology and construction. The “Leniwiec” armchair from the 1960s and a chest of drawers from the type 1020 combination set were made for Bydgoskie Fabryki Mebli; together they also designed the interior of Teatr Kameralny. From the late 1950s, Lejkowski introduced colourful furniture: sets with contrasting cushions and pine, beech and mahogany veneers.
