Livio Castiglioni was born in 1911 in Milan and died in 1979 in Lierna. He was the son of the sculptor Giannino Castiglioni and the brother of Piero Giacomo and Achille. He studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan and co-founded the brothers’ design studio in Milan.
With Piero Giacomo and Luigi Caccia Dominioni, he designed the Phonola radio, and with Caccia Dominioni, the Caccia cutlery. He also designed lamps: Boalum for Artemide (1969, with Gianfranco Frattini) and the Scintilla system for Fontana Arte (with his son Piero). He was a founder and, in 1959, president of Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI). His work is held at MoMA.
