Marian Grabiński is known above all for his collaboration with IKEA. According to the IKEA Museum, Ingvar Kamprad met him in January 1961 in Poland, where Grabiński – an official, engineer and designer – organised visits to factories. In the 1960s, he worked at the export headquarters of Polska Agencja Eksportu Drewna (Polish Timber Export Agency), where he played a key role. His design is the MTP bookcase from 1963: a sample in light Polish oak was made by a factory in Jarocin, and the piece was shown at the furniture fair in Poznań. The MTP series appeared in the IKEA catalogue in 1966 and remained on sale for more than a decade.
The description in the 1966 IKEA catalogue states that Grabiński studied and worked at Warsaw University of Technology. In its 1968 catalogue, IKEA presented the Vistula series designed by him. Marian Grabiński became firmly established in the history of Polish design as the creator of the A-5910 chair from 1959. This well-regarded design is still produced by FAMEG.
