Marianne Westman was born on 17 June 1928 in Falun and died there on 15 January 2017. From 1950 to 1971, she designed for the Swedish ceramics manufacturer Rörstrand, with which she spent almost her entire professional career.
Her first design for Rörstrand was the Mon Amie pattern from 1952. The Picknick pattern was created in 1956; examples are held by Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo. During the period of their greatest popularity, Mon Amie and Picknick together accounted for around half of Rörstrand's sales. In 2008, Mon Amie was reintroduced into production.
Röhsska museet in Gothenburg also holds her Göran tableware set from the 1950s and a tea towel with the Picknick pattern – an example of transferring a motif from ceramics to textiles. Her work is therefore held in museum collections in both Sweden and Norway.
