Nils Thorsson was born on 24 October 1898 in Eslöv, Sweden, and died on 25 October 1975 in Copenhagen. At the age of thirteen, he began studying at the Aluminia faience factory, and from 1917 to 1923 he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

From 1928 to 1969, he was Aluminia’s artistic director, and from 1949 he also held this position at Royal Copenhagen (Den kgl. Porcelainsfabrik). For Aluminia, he designed the Columbine series (1957–1958), comprising 20 forms and produced until 1961. In 1958, he initiated a “Scandinavian workshop” for young artists, from which the Tenera series emerged; the BACA series, produced from 1965, also originated from the same circle. At Royal Copenhagen, he developed the Mussel, Dilou and Turkis glazes.
