Osvaldo Borsani was born on 17 August 1911 in Varedo. In 1933, his Casa Minima design won a silver medal at the 5th Triennale in Milan. He was associated with the family business Atelier Varedo, run by his father, and in 1932 Arredamenti Borsani (ABV) was established in Milan.
In 1953, together with his twin brother Fulgenzio, he founded Tecno, whose collection was shown at the 10th Triennale in Milan in 1954. Designs created for Tecno included the D70 sofa (1954), P40 armchair (1955), T69 table (1963), Graphis (1968), designed jointly with Eugenio Gerli, and P126 (1976). Borsani thus moved from his father’s craft furniture workshop to industrial furniture production.
The D70 sofa and P40 armchair were created during Tecno’s early years, while the subsequent designs – the T69 table, Graphis and P126 – expanded the company’s range over the following two decades. In 1989, four years after Borsani’s death, Tecno received the Compasso d’Oro award. Osvaldo Borsani died in Milan on 16 April 1985.
