Paolo Deganello was born on 9 September 1940 in Este. From 1963 to 1972, he worked as an urban planner in Calenzano near Florence, and in 1966 he graduated in architecture from the University of Florence. From 1966 to 1973, he was a member of the Florentine group Archizoom, regarded as the originator of anti-design.

He taught design at the University of Florence, the Architectural Association in London and an academy in Saarbrücken. He is known primarily for his chair designs, including the Archizoom office series and the AEO seat. His work was shown, among other places, in the exhibition “Italy: The New Domestic Landscape” at MoMA (1972) and documenta 8 (1987).
