Raija Liisa Uosikkinen was born on 12 April 1923 in Hollola and died on 15 January 2004 in Helsinki. From 1944 to 1947, she studied porcelain painting at the Central School of Applied Arts in Helsinki, and from 1947 to 1986 she designed patterns for Arabia.
One of her first tasks was creating patterns for the new B model by Kaj Franck, including Linnea, Polaris and Pellervo. For Ulla Procopé’s FA marmalade jar, she designed the Pomona pattern (1964–1971). Her most popular patterns include the Emilia series and the Ali series, inspired by Islamic ornament; she also created many collector’s plates in the Kalevala series and annual plates (1978–1983).
