Vladimír Jelínek was born on 5 February 1934. From 1949 to 1952, he studied at the Glassmaking School in Kamenický Šenov, then studied at UMPRUM in Prague under Josef Kaplický, graduating in 1958. He worked both as an industrial designer and as an independent artist and glass engraver; he designed for many glassworks, including Škrdlovice. He received numerous state awards.
A plate with an abstract decoration made at Škrdlovice with glassmaker Emanuel Beránek in 1957 is held in the Corning Museum of Glass collection, as is a drinkware set made for the Bohemia factory in Dobronín. He designed most of the drinkware sets produced by Moser (Karlovarské sklo) from the 1960s to the early 1980s; together with Luboš Metelák, he created the Helena, Ofelie, Dominik and Flóra sets. With Pavel Hlava, he designed objects for Český křišťál in Chlum u Třeboně.
His work was shown at EXPO 58 in Brussels, the 12th Triennale in Milan (1960) and EXPO 67 in Montreal, where he exhibited a large sculpture inspired by machinery and technology. In 2020, his artist’s catalogue was published by Spolek sympozia rytého skla (Engraved Glass Symposium Association) in Kamenický Šenov.
